Photographer Harley Weir has already shot for several major publications and designers such as i-D, CR Fashion Book, Jacquemus, and Céline. Weir graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art in 2010. The young, self-taught photographer is the second woman to be signed onto Art Partner, which has signed other prestigious photographers like Mario Testino and Steven Klein. Weir’s photography is well known for its uncompromisingly raw and intimate aesthetic. Much of her work has a bodily aspect to it with a focus on human form with erotic tinges.
Weir’s work as the Instagram user as “rubbish_1”, while quite removed from human form and the corporeal, continues to portray her raw and erotic aesthetic. The photos of “rubbish”, or trash, contain the same bodily aspects as does her other photography with the almost sensual and fleshly textures and fluids. Overlooked as vile and nonsense, a play on both connotations of the word “rubbish”, trash according to Weir’s photographs, instead, create a narrative surrounding the interactions of the waste with each other through the visibility of both erosion and durability and a heightened sense of palpability.
