Fuori Casta

Fuori Casta

An emergent sound and body performer, AMÆMI’s releases a fresh new project titled “Fuori Casta”. A photography and video performance exploring the realm of tantric yoga, sexuality, Ego and Universal Consciousness. Its manifesto offers many philosophical questions, which the video and the tantric practice tries to answer.

The video-performance is at first glance very aesthetic; it's a soft held-cam in the late evening, in an open space seemingly the middle of nowhere, it's light focus being from a flash. But it's not the main focus, the focus is its very esoteric message;
“A sort of Alchemy takes place in Tantra, because it leads to an inner transformation, especially through ritual sexual activity. In Tantra, sexual energy is discovered, transformed and sublimated to allow the individual to reach elevated states of consciousness up to perfect communion with Universal Consciousness. It is the union of two aspects; Yin and Yang, masculine and feminine, lunar and solar, which leads to creation, to all manifestation.”

“Fuori Casta” gives you a feeling of empowerment through an eerie and grainy film. The team behind it wanted to revisit Tantra and all its philosophical undertones through a contemporary lens, creating a beautiful video that leaves you wondering about the power of yoga. AMÆMI exploring mainly how sexuality and tantric practices connect.

“Tantra preaches immersion in the material, understood both as body and as concrete, artificiality or urbanization, since it is only starting from what we are made of and what we have around us that we can transcend. The point is therefore not to avoid the physical and the artificial, but to face it and go through it and then overcome it and climb higher. Therefore, it is thus that the sexual energy and sensuality of a Western girl conditioned and immersed in the overstimulation of the sexual sphere typical of the West, likewise in her bedroom of the suburban building in which she lives, are embraced and incorporated into the path of tantric spiritual ascent and used within the path to then be transformed, thinned and transcended.”

The recitation of mantras, the breathing techniques and the “Greeting to The Sun” sequence all have similarities to the sexual experience. And many more examples can be found of Tantra, and the practice around it, being an interpretation of the human condition and its complexities.
