““I subconsciously wanted to capture a contrast between the innocent and playful experimentation of a child (the messy makeup..the mis-matched and the spontaneous overlaying of clothing pieces) and also something more self-aware, powerful and deliberate.””
Cope wanted to incorporate a sense of self-awareness and intention with the photo series, but at the same time maintain a sense of naturalness and instinct.
““The shot of Nicolette outside on the garden rainy patio smoking a cigarette in a tartan skirt and red jumper was completely candid - she only threw this outfit on so she could go outside to smoke, but I thought it looked great so I shot some of that too from inside her house looking out.””
