Objects Without Meaning

Objects Without Meaning

"Alex (Designer of OM) approached me to collaborate on a film for her SS season. I've been really enjoying the process of integrating art-film with absurd fashion, so it sounded great. For inspiration, she referenced Bertolucci's 'The Dreamers', a film I had not yet seen. My summer months pervious to this prompt had been spent in New York - It was a riveting summer that all seemed to surround a kind of freedom, a "queerdom," and pretty much a sexual liberation/un-identification across the board. At that point, I was overflowing with conversations on modern relationships, breaking of aging heteronormative parameters & perspectives, and ideas of individualism within relationships. So, when I finally saw 'The Dreamers', I was pleased by how perfectly it fit with the social path I had been on. I think 'The Dreamers' is a solidly explored film when it comes to sexual dynamic (those of you who have seen know what I mean) and I was happy to use it not only as inspiration for the film, but also to continue the conversations. My director's cut is longer & more narrative than the Vogue cut; Both dip into these sociological & cultural explorations with the artistic themes & aesthetic treatment."

Objects Without Meaning (LA) was created by Alexandra Michelle with a focus on developing clothing that emphasizes the wearer rather than the object. The focus of each collection is on the simplicity of its materials and the forms they take - Rather than adhering to trends, the brand builds upon it’s vocabulary of forms and materials each season, creating a continual dialogue from one season to the next. The brand has collaborated with several artists including Miranda July & Emily Browning.
