Aaron Rumore

Aaron Rumore

Aaron Rumore is an upcoming hyper-pop artist hailing from Italy who channels a path that began back when midwestern emo and indie rock bands in the 1990s were a hit.
His sound has progressed through noise and rock (via the self-managed cassette label Körper/Leib), as he overcame Trap with Lil Rumore and now reaches a definitive synthesis of alternative, ethereal, and experimental pop.

In a Coeval interview below, Aaron chats about his journey into the music industry, career highlights and his main influences.

Explain your journey into the music industry. Where did you start and how have you gotten to now?

I prefer to describe this journey as workin' on the side of the music industry or, otherwise, as. bug in that kind of system. Anyways: i started with Emocore, Indie Rock and Post Punk bands, then i found my Noise/Noise Rock/Experimental music label and then i started my proper career in Italy as Lil Rumore that brings me in this actual stage of the process in which i use my real name and became more and more aware and self confident 'bout what i need to do and express through the music.

Where do you draw your creative influence from?

Actually the main source is the philosophy i studied, but i like to mix my grammar book jokin' with rap tropes and deconstruction of the genres. I like the high and the lows, more than what's in the middle.

The music you create is described as Hyperpop, would you agree? And why are you drawn to these genre?

Basically i'm not super happy 'bout fittin' in a Spotify related chart - that's what Hyperpop means to me in 2022 - but the main thing is that, like hyperpop meant to be some times ago, i like to mix my whole experience in music and i'm already workin' on another level of signature sound with my main producer, Coma.

What are your career highlights so far?

I don't like the idea of having goals or the over-productive aspect of the nowdays music and on the other hand i'm a extrovert-introvert person, so i'm not able to be joyous 'bout my results. Anyways, if i have to trace an highlight is everytime i play live or when i craft something "out of my hand" in the studio.

Being an Italian musican, how does this influence your music and what is the industry like there?

The italian industry at this point is kind of a mimic or at least a soft reflection of the whole industry, and at this very stage is tryin' to gain more stage bringin' fast phenomenon to the mainstream. That's not my case. But as a Neapolitan artist, i can completely and clearly say that i'm surrounded of what my city is and represent, and someways i translate that city in a metaphorical way or i describe that as an RPG stage. This kind of figurative imaginary helps me bein' rooted in where i live but also as an excapist method to gain another stage of reflection.

What advice would you give other hungry artists or producers [n. b.: ho corretto anche qui la domanda perchè non sono propriamente un DJ] who are trying to make it in the industry?

Keep the whole thing in your hand, organize, promote and go full diy at the maximum amount of effort you can, stay motivated through the whole process. Don't believe the hype, at the end of the day u need to eat and drink in order to keep you alive.

What are your three favourite tracks to listen to right now?

ML Buch - O
Rooster - Guts Theme
The Kid Laroi - Stay (Live @ Jimmy Kimmel)

And finally, how do you see your music developing over the next few years?

As i said i'm goin' more and more into a signature sound in which i'd like to draw in every single aspect of my years as listener or musician; probably more songwriting, more Post Punk and less metaphorical speakin', i mean: i'd like to open myself in full to the listener.
