Artist Alexander Kutovoi was born in 1983 in Cherkassy in Ukraine. He graduated in 2010 from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kiev. Kutovoi has had several solo exhibitions in Eastern Europe and has participated in group exhibition at the MMOMA and The Darwin Museum in Moscow. His practice is mainly sculpture and installation-based with themes revolving around memory, space, and rituals. Often including faceless bodies in his works, Kutovoi invites us to fill in the blank in a rather peculiar, meta-process in thinking about the process of filling—filling memories and blank spaces. With fragmented pieces and a particular emphasis on negative space, Kutovoi’s works highlight the gaps and narratives that can potentially fill them. The artist is currently based in Moscow.
