Andrea Crews AW20

Andrea Crews AW20

For the AW20 collection, Andrea Crews has been revaluing stocks of leather and angora from the 80s – a conceptual choice that gives these long-forgotten, animal-derived materials a new life, and introduces a specific technical and stylistic approach to upcycling. By transforming vintage materials into patchwork pieces, oversized tops and sportswear-inspired items, the label further rethinks the role of deadstock and models it into a somewhat transcendent, metamorphic idea of streetwear with the help of Ana Castillo’s intervention through painting.

Instead of an ordinary runway, Andrea Crews opts for a performative act that observes and literally reflects upon the inward-looking gaze and the narcissistic facets that define our present. The staggering amount of mirrors that fill the room becomes a hyperbolic sign: it augments, reproduces, and scatters the human figure and the surrounding space. Accompanied by Bella Baguena’s transformative sounds, the observer is ultimately brought to question the value of introspection within this image-focused reality – at a time when big changes seem both necessary and imminent.
