If we’d needed somebody to build intricate scenarios of a near dystopian future it is definitely @jonathanching_art that we would give a call. The British 3D Artist from Manchester scored jobs at Ubisoft, Netflix and McLaren Applied Technologies. We are talking Assassin’s Creed Valhalla here.

What is your current project?

I'm currently under contract with Ubisoft as an art consultant where I've helped produce in-game materials for Assassin's Creed Valhalla. I'm also working on a personal project inspired by the Baroque art period as a way of deviating from my artistic comfort zone.

When did you get into animation and design?

I've been interested in art and anything creative since I can remember. I decided to make the move in a more serious direction around 7 years ago when I went to University to study Illustration and animation. Been doing freelance work ever since.

What is your most favorite character or environment you created so far?

My female android character, "Eve", was the first professionally successful piece that helped get me work and was featured on the cover of 3D Artist Magazine which was a great achievement for me at the time.

What impact has Covid-19 had on your work so far - where do you get your inspiration from at the moment?

I've been fortunate in that I was already working remotely and so the pandemic hasn't affected my working life too much. At the moment I'm trying to expand my artistic interests and have been looking at different historical art periods for inspiration.

You live in Manchester: tell us three places you love to spend time at when you're off screen - and what do you like to do there?

I'm a bit of a gym freak so I love keeping active with bodybuilding at the gym. I'm more of a Liverpool fan than Manchester(!) so I visit Liverpool city and the docks there quite often. I also just enjoy taking walks around the English countryside whenever I get the time.

The future is …

The future is whatever we want it to be.
