Uncomfortable Beauty
Aiming to decentralize beauty, especially fashion, from the Western world, “The Uncomfortable Beauty” challenges the dated standards set by Westerners and works to rekindle Castro’s personal connection to Peruvian folklore. Sixteen individual photos construct this project, which were recently shot in Lima. The editorial fixates upon an almost fictional reality, drawing from moments that almost seem like memories whilst expressing the wounds of Peru’s turbulent history and the ramifications still evident currently. “The Uncomfortable Beauty” opens a space for conversation surrounding beauty as a concept, and what it means to possess beauty in today and tomorrow's society.
