Zora Sicher

Zora Sicher is an artist and photographer born in Brooklyn, New York well known for her photography championing women. Sicher’s photos are highly influenced by films and cinematography, particularly experimental films. Her other mediums include writing , filming and moving image. Sicher’s work challenges the diversity and appropriation rampant in the world of fashion and photography.

“Right now I am writing a lot, I have been keeping it to myself for the moment but am currently trying to figure out how all these ideas can intermingle as a larger body of work.”
— Zora Sicher
“I feel photographing people is difficult - It’s the mystery of a moment and a form of communication, an arguable idea of a fragment of a second as an ultimate truth.”
— Zora Sicher
“(when photographing someone) theres a moment whether ‘truthful’ or acted out that becomes emotive of something between the two of you, and that space or moment hopefully translates and creates a powerful image.”
— Zora Sicher

Her work has been featured in NY Magazine, i-D, The Cut, and more. Much of her photography is portraiture, but she has recently began to work on still photos and moving images. While still fascinated by strangers and the attraction of the unknown, Sicher mainly photographs family and friends. Ideally, in the process of her photography she hopes to reach an area where both she and the subject have contributed to the photo as a collaboration. She is currently based in Brooklyn.
