30 Blizzards presents Helen Marten’s mature vision of what installation can be when theatre, sculpture, sound and writing convene in one space. The project, commissioned by Miu Miu for the public programme of Art Basel Paris and located in the grand Palais d’Iéna, arranges five sculptural platforms and five video works as structural markers in a room inhabited by thirty performers.
Each performer embodies a conceptual “emotional weather” and carries a designated material tool that maps the relationship between human gesture and object. The surrounding mechanical track, carrying containers in silent orbit, adds an infrastructural rhythm to the performance.
Those sculptures and videos refer back to life’s stages: childhood, community, sexuality, interiority, and loss. In Marten’s own words, language belongs to everything; so the video monologues and live voices function as part of the material field.
Miu Miu positions the work within its ongoing exploration of femininity and women’s lives, situating the fashion house as instigator of cultural production rather than mere sponsor.
The exhibition runs 22-26 October 2025 and opens access to a historically private architecture. Free registration invites audiences to engage directly; beyond looking, they become witnesses to a layered event where voice, object and time co-exist. In the hushed geometry of the hall the performers move, mechanical cycles turn, video voices speak, and the architecture becomes the quiet collaborator in a vivid orchestration of matter and mind.
Open from October 22 to 26, 11am to 7pm.
