Nike SNKRS lands in Milan on Saturday, September 12 with Dolce XOXO, a day and night takeover of Via Sammartini 72 dedicated to the Air Max Dolce. The premise is a generation shaped by the internet and by the visual cultures of the 2000s: glitter cursors, bedazzled phone cases, custom MySpace pages, the first years of sharing images online. That period comes back here as a working language for art, sound and fashion, with community as the thing that holds it all together.
THE DAY PROGRAM
The exhibition runs from 3 to 9pm and gathers eleven names: Mika Ben Amar, Tudor Ciurescu, Common Index, Due000 Contemporary Archive, Hollywood Superstar Review, Emir Karyo, Luna Mahoux, Forniture Pallotta, Rat Section, Sara Sadik and Brennan Wojtyla. Painters, filmmakers, archivists and designers share the same floor, each one reading the sneaker through their own practice. When the exhibition closes, the evening takes over.
THE NIGHT PROGRAM
Dolce XOXO started as an afternoon. Eleven artists, a chrome heart, the Air Max Dolce on display at Via Sammartini 72 from 3 to 9pm. Two hours after the last visitor leaves the exhibition, the doors open again for the second half of the programme.
From 11pm to 3am, Nike SNKRS turns the space into a club with three names at the controls. Renoiterrible opens. Rat Section, who also appears in the daytime exhibition, moves from the wall to the booth for a DJ set. Spiritual Sauna takes the final stretch. The music follows the same brief as the art: a generation that grew up online, with the visual cultures of the 2000s as their first reference and the present as their working material.
The invite is black this time, the rhinestone ornaments still in place, the palette reduced to silver. It reads as an instruction. Come dressed for it.
