From May 6 to 9, 2026, Kuboraum returns to Venice to host the third edition of its festival, "We Travel To Know Our Own Geography." Located at the Pier Fortunato Calvi State Secondary School in the Castello district, the event aligns with the pre-opening weekend of the 61st Venice Art Biennale. This program refuses rigid categorization, opting instead for a political stance rooted in hybridity and the rejection of cultural homogenization.
The 2026 curation centers on ASIANDOPEBOYS, the Shanghai-based collective led by Tianzhuo Chen. In collaboration with choreographer Siko Setyanto, they present Moyang & Seaman, a work that utilizes Noh theatre and oceanic mythologies to create a ritualistic landscape. This project also provides the physical framework for the festival, as the scenographic installation hosts other performances within its structure.
The schedule features a rigorous selection of multidisciplinary artists. Joshua Serafin presents Relics: An Eye Once Blind, an investigation into ancestral trauma and Japanese-Philippine migration histories. Kianí del Valle and Ziúr reconfigure the archetype of the witch through De Brujas y Fantasmas, while FRANKIE and Kelman Duran debut a live iteration of their collaborative album, McArthur. Additionally, Ziúr and Sandi present Home, a reflection on belonging featuring Martina Bertoni and Sara Persico.
Further contributions include a solo guitar concert by Romain Azzaro and electronic sets by Cosimo Damiano. Emiliano Maggi expands his visual world into Estasy, a performance involving a live choir. Most featured works are linked to Kuboraum Editions, which serves as a platform for these artists to release physical recordings. Venice, a city defined by a layered history of Mediterranean exchange, serves as the ideal site for this negotiation between self and other. Entrance to all festival events is free to the public, though capacity remains limited.
