In line with the theme of Artissima 2025 edition, Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth, the VIP lounge of the fair will host site-specific works by the art duo thebackstudio.
NO MANUAL takes its cue from the observations of Buckminster Fuller, who says that fate has not left us with instructions to guide our life, and urges us to celebrate the power of intuition, experimentation, improvisation and discovery.
The approach of thebackstudio reflects the very essence of artistic creation, a process that cannot be encoded in instructions, or reduced to operating procedures. The artists acknowledge that many of the most profound innovations of humankind do not arise by following pre-set guidelines, but from the courage to venture into unexplored territories without a map.
Their compositions for the VIP Lounge, made by assembling parts of satellites and space modules for low orbit around the Earth, combined with handcrafted neon tubes in blown glass, embody this philosophy in a material form: hybrid objects, suspended between function and sculpture, between the calculated precision of aerospace engineering and the spontaneous expression of artistic vision.
