Ultracinema Art Festival 2025

  • Cinema Apollo Ferrara Via del Carbone, 35, 44121 Ferrara FE (map)

The first edition of Ultracinema Art Festival brings a distinct presence to Ferrara. Under the artistic direction of Jonny Costantino, the festival builds an environment where cinema speaks through its raw nerve. The Sala Arazzi hosted the presentation with the support of the city administration and the cultural network that nurtures Ferrara La Città del Cinema. Their shared effort shapes a solid foundation for an edition driven by courage and precision.

The concept of the Bastardi forms the central thread. It signals a cinema that does not rely on familiar codes. It invites questions about narrative, form, texture. The festival encourages authors to be part of a restless zone where thought grows stronger and images acquire a deeper weight.

The event opens up through 8 sections, each dedicated to a specific intensity. From long formats to short works, from documentary research to reflective experiments, Ultracinema welcomes a wide constellation of approaches. The arrival of Catherine Breillat amplifies the relevance of this edition. Her work confronts human presence with a rare combination of sharpness and courage.

Nicola Samorì gives form to the Worbas, a creature rooted in local mythology. Through his vision, the animal becomes a symbol of the festival spirit. A figure that gathers earth, water, air and fire with the firmness of a singular identity.

The roster of invited authors ranges from Petra Seliškar to Hilal Baydarov, from Luca Ferri to Oleksandra Horobets, from Federico Lodoli to Aleksandr Sokurov. Each name contributes a path with a truth and formal approach.
