Thomas Hammer

Zeta Phoenicis, 2015, acrylic and gesso on linen, 14 x 12 cm

Thomas Hammer is a New York City based visual artist. He builds his paintings up through layers of freehand brushstrokes, airbrush work, and simple trompe l'oeil effects. Rather than planning the work in advance, he works intuitively and gradually shapes the direction of the work with each accumulating layer. His process often involves covering over previously worked areas of the canvas to leave only remnants of geometric shapes and painterly gestures.

Hammer’s works have been published in Architectural Digest and he has exhibited and sold work in the United States and around the world. His next show will be in December, 2015 at X Contemporary in Miami with Parenthesis Art Space.
