Artist and documentary photographer Anastasiia Chorna was born in Odessa in 1991. Many of her works stem from her aesthetic interest in Soviet and Post-Soviet life. Chorna’s photographs rely heavily on her exploration of beauty and the unappealing as well as emotional trauma. Chorna lived in the Ukraine for 20 years, studied architecture and went on to model. She began to experiment with film photography and eventually decided to dedicate more time to her photographic art. Chorna’s photography works as a visual diary, but rather than be deeply personal, her works, instead, strive for a sort of roughness and incomplete feel. Chorna is currently based in New York.
