Grounds FW26

Grounds FW26

For Autumn/Winter 2026, grounds continues its journey into what Sakabe calls “ergonomic surrealism.” The collection takes a wild ride through uncanny valley, drawing on Japanese horror lore, silhouettes designed to unsettle, with classic tailoring and kimono shapes distorted to feel unfit for standard human proportions, stained materials, and accessories like giant insectoid eyewear.

Grounds-signature transparent soles and bat-winged platforms remain central to the vision, alongside Sakabe’s evolving idea of “new luxury”, one built not on heritage or heritage codes, but on what he describes as “some humor and intelligence.”

At the core of Sakabe’s vision is the belief that footwear is not an accessory but a user interface for the ground itself, and with AW26, grounds once again asks what it truly means to stand on the earth.
